Le Marais was produced by 1000 Beasts in the middle of the night in an apartment just off the Rue De Rivoli in Paris during a short break in the city in late 2018. The vibe was chill, and the track, which closes out his upcoming EP, marks the most lo-fi and downbeat beat piece the artist has released to date.
1000 Beasts took that beat back to Ireland and collaborated with young Dublin born, but London based, artist Kayleigh Noble. The majority of the song was written across voice memo's on Whatsapp, bouncing different ideas, melodies and lyrics between them so that when the duo met up to record the following month, the whole track was nearly written.
lyrics
Woke up today,
On the wrong side, you could say I've been
So tired of you lately
But have you ever wondered
Why when, you call, I don't seem so bothered at all
Keep trying to climb up my wall
Has that not got you thinking?
Shoulda seen it coming, coming towards your way
Tried to send a warning, couldn't see what I had to say
Shoulda seen it coming, coming towards your way
You're my type on paper but we're on a different page
I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry
At the start I saw your heart, it was too sweet for me
So I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry
I let you in under my skin
It was too much for me
I told you I didn't wanna be with you
But you insisted that I gotta see it through
Now every time I see you, I feel so cruel
I hope you understand why I can't be with you
I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry
At the start I saw your heart, it was too sweet for me
So I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry
I let you in under my skin
It was too much for me
I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry
I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry
I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry
I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry
